Glass Seed Beads

Small glass rocailles for loom and off-loom weaving, embroidery and fine spacer work, drawn from the glass seed bead line of the catalogue.

Seed beads are the smallest workhorse beads in the glass family: tiny rocailles consumed by the hank and the kilo in bead weaving, embroidery, fringe and fine spacer work. They sit in this catalogue as a named line of the glass section, alongside the lampwork and millefiori lines, and they are bought completely differently — by weight and by aught size rather than by the piece.

Because seed beads are a commodity line, the per-SKU figures that matter — which aught sizes, which colours, opaque or transparent or lined, and the pack weight — change with stock. This page therefore sets out how to specify them properly. Send your size and colour list with your inquiry and we confirm the current catalogue entries, pack basis and minimums per SKU before you order; nothing on this page should be read as a standing size or colour chart.

How buyers spec seed beads

  • Use aught sizes. Seed beads are traded by aught size (for example 6/0, 8/0, 11/0, 15/0 — the larger the number, the smaller the bead). State the aught size for every colour on your list; 'small seed beads' is not a specification.
  • Name the finish. Opaque, transparent, silver-lined, matte and iris finishes behave differently in woven work and photograph differently. List the finish beside each colour.
  • Order by weight. Seed beads pack by hanks or by weight. State kilograms per colour so quotes from different suppliers compare like for like.
  • Hold a dye-lot sample. Colour shifts between lots are the classic seed-bead problem. Retain a sample card from your first delivery and reference it on every repeat.

Minimums, units and packing

Seed bead minimums and pack weights are confirmed per SKU — the recorded catalogue does not publish a standing figure for this line, and we do not invent one. Send sizes, finishes, colours and target weights with your inquiry; the reply will state the current minimum, pack basis and price for each entry.

Buyer questions

Which aught sizes are in stock?

Stock turns over on a commodity line like this. Send your size list and we confirm which aught sizes and colours are in the current catalogue before you build a design around them.

Are these Czech or Japanese seed beads?

No origin claim is made for this line — they are the glass seed beads of this supplier's catalogue. If your work requires a specific origin's uniformity, say so in your inquiry and we will tell you plainly whether this line fits.

What thread pairs with seed beads?

The findings range includes multi-coloured beading thread at 0.3–1mm recorded sizes. For fine weaving you will typically work at the thin end; confirm thread stock alongside your bead list.
