Spacer Beads
The beads that give a design its rhythm — metal rondelles, accent spacers and lampwork spacer beads, specified by hole and diameter.
Spacer beads do the quiet work: they separate focals, protect soft beads from rubbing, set the rhythm of a strand and make a 14-inch strand reach 16. They are a named line of this catalogue's findings section (jewelry spacer beads), and the metal section adds the rondelle family — rondelle brass beads in round and square forms among the recorded metal bead lines. The glass range contributes its own: flat round millefiori lampwork spacer beads, recorded at $0.99–2.29 with a 50-strand minimum.
A spacer is specified by two numbers — its outside diameter and its hole — and one decision: whether it should disappear (matched metal, minimal) or accent (contrast colour, patterned). This page covers the spacer families on record and the sizing logic, including the stopper role spacers play on pins and cords. Line-by-line sizes in current stock are confirmed per SKU.

How buyers spec spacer beads
- Hole must clear the cord — with the knot. Spacers near a clasp often have to swallow a crimp or a knot. Give your cord diameter and flag any spacer that must hide hardware.
- Diameter sets the rhythm. A spacer at 60–80% of the focal's diameter reads as punctuation; at focal size it reads as another bead. Mock the ratio before ordering a run.
- Metal spacers protect soft beads. Between pearl, shell or porcelain neighbours, a smooth metal spacer prevents edge chipping. If protection is the job, choose smooth rondelles over textured ones.
- Count them honestly. A strand design can use more spacers than focals. Count per finished piece, add wastage, and order the total — spacer shortages strand (literally) whole production runs.
Minimums, units and packing
Metal spacer minimums are confirmed per SKU by size and finish; the recorded lampwork spacer line is 50 strands at $0.99–2.29. Send spacer type, diameter, hole and quantity — the reply states the current lines for both metal and glass spacers.
Buyer questions
Spacer bead vs bead cap — what is the difference?
A spacer sits between beads along the strand; a cap cups the end of a single bead. They are often used together on a focal: cap, bead, cap. See bead caps.
Can spacers be the stopper on a head pin?
Yes — a small spacer or seed bead threaded first stops a large-hole bead from sliding over a ball head. It is the standard fix described on the head pins page.
Do you record any silver spacers?
The silver findings tier is recorded in crimps, eyelets and earwires. For silver spacers, ask per inquiry — the sterling page sets out what is on record.
