Blue and White Porcelain Beads
Cobalt brushwork on white porcelain — 18mm hand-painted rounds, a tulip flat-oval stock SKU, and shard pendants with unrepeatable patterns.
Blue-and-white is the most recognised porcelain palette in the world: cobalt pigment painted on a white body, sealed under a clear glaze. In bead form it gives designers a ready-made story — every bead carries a fragment of brushwork. The recorded lines here are hand-painted blue-and-white porcelain beads at 18mm ($0.18–0.21, MOQ 500), blue-and-white shard pendants ($5.70–6.00, MOQ 20) and a precisely catalogued stock SKU: CE-BW0380, a tulip-motif flat oval at approximately 15×21×5mm with an approximately 2mm hole, sold by the piece.
Because the painting is done by hand, blue-and-white rewards buyers who spec it properly: name the motif family (floral, tulip, traditional scroll), the shape and the dimensions, and accept that brush density varies within a batch — that variation is what separates hand-painted porcelain from printed transfers, and it is visible to your customers too. For design guidance on working cobalt porcelain into jewellery, see the hand-painted porcelain guide in the blog.

How buyers spec blue-and-white beads
- Cobalt depth is a batch property. The same motif fires deeper or paler between kiln runs. Approve a fired sample per order and keep it as the reference for repeats.
- Shards cannot be matched. Shard pendants are cut from patterned vessels; each piece's pattern window is unique. Photograph the actual pieces if your listing shows individual pendants, or sell them as 'each one unique' — which is the truth and a selling point.
- 18mm is a focal size. The recorded round line is a statement bead. For strand work at smaller sizes, the wider hand-painted porcelain range runs 6–26mm — confirm which blue-and-white motifs exist at your target size per SKU.
- Pair with restraint. Blue-and-white carries a design on its own; it is most often strung with plain white porcelain, silver spacers or dark wood. The spacer beads page covers the metal side.
Minimums, units and packing
Recorded minimums: 500 pieces on the 18mm hand-painted rounds, 20 pieces on shard pendants, 50 pieces on chip pendants. The tulip SKU is sold by the piece. Confirm current price, motif availability and packing per SKU before ordering — hand-painted stock is finite per firing.
Buyer questions
Is the painting under or over the glaze?
Traditional blue-and-white is underglaze: cobalt is painted on the body and sealed by a clear glaze, which is why the surface feels smooth and the colour does not rub off. Ask for the process confirmation on your specific SKU if your market requires it.
Can I order shard pendants in matched pairs for earrings?
Shards are inherently unmatched. For earrings, consider the round hand-painted lines instead, where pairs can be selected at packing — say 'matched pairs' on the order if that is what you need.
What other motifs exist besides tulip?
The recorded stock SKU is tulip; floral and traditional motifs run through the wider hand-painted porcelain range. Motif availability by size is confirmed per SKU — send the motif and size you need.
